Church Of Jesus

Which Christian denomination is the closest to the 1st century church of Jesus’ apostles?
And in your answers could you please explain why the denomination you mention is the closest? Thanks.
The groups closest to the first century Church founded by Jesus And His apostles are actually nondenominational—that is, a group without a popularly recognized label like Protestant, Catholic, etc.
I attend with United Church of God, one of several Christian organizations that sticks to the beliefs and practices of the first century Church. We observe, like Jesus And The apostles, the weekly Sabbath and the annual biblical Holy Days. We also continue to preach Christ’s message of the good news of the coming Kingdom of God while striving to prepare a people for the same.
Living Church of God is another very similar group—and both UCG and LCG have congregations around the world. In my sources I have included three articles published by UCG on the subject, as well as two links for finding local congregations in both United and Living Church of God.
Hope this helps! Best of luck in your search.

”Tenebrae”: A call to remembrance. A musical commentary to Philippians 2:6–8. $49.99 The Tenebrae, an early church service, is a service of darkness that depicts the series of events on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday prior to Easter. A significant feature in this service is the successive extinguishing of candles as the service progresses. This represents the life of Christ being snuffed out slowly.;The original presentation of this service ends in darkness. However, in this work, a candle will remain unextinguished to depict the actual resurrection of Christ. This is done to represent a commemoration not of death but of life. In essence, it is a call to worship Him who has accomplished victory over death.;This work serves as a musical commentary to Philippians 2: 5b- 8. These verses set the “Call to Remembrance” section and serve as the unifying factor for the whole service.;It aims to reflect the life of Christ. It also aims to remind believers why they chose to follow Christ. Performing forces include SATB soloists and a chamber ensemble consisting of western and non-western instruments.;This work consists of a prelude, six movements, and a benediction. The movements depict the different events before the resurrection of Christ. These are the garden scene, the arrest, Peter’s denial of Jesus, the trial, the crucifixion, and death. |

”Words that hurt, words that heal” United Methodist worship and gender language 1972-1992. $49.99 In nineteen-sixty-eight, the Methodist Church and Evangelical United Brethren Church merged to form the United Methodist Church. With the inception of this new denomination came the opportunity for liturgical reform. The newly formed denomination established a Commission on Worship that broke ground theologically and ecumenically, developing alternate texts for the sacraments and rites of Christian worship. Concurrently, in the late 1960s feminist theologians challenged the patriarchal constructs of religion, focusing on the prevalence and injustice of sexist language. Awareness and advocacy for change in gender language was the product of the Inclusive Language Movement, which greatly influenced the development of the United Methodist liturgical texts.;This dissertation addresses the historical development of these rites converging on the intersection of the Inclusive Language Movement and liturgy in United Methodist rites of Word and Table, Baptism, and Ordination from 1972 to 1992. The evaluation of the rites is guided by the gender analysis methodology of Marjorie Procter-Smith, comparative liturgy methodology of Anton Baumstark interpreted by Robert Taft, and the literary critical method of Joyce Ann Zimmerman. The primary focus of the dissertation is on the linguistic textual patterns signifying humanity, Jesus, God, and the Trinity. Analysis of the pedagogical rubrics and textual content points to a pattern of acceptance, resistance and revision of gender language and imagery in these texts. This pattern further identifies a constructed essentialism of Trinitarian language employed in these liturgical texts. The dissertation concludes with specific recommendations as well as rationale for increased use of emancipatory language in United Methodist worship. The primary texts sources used are the available drafts of the texts, committee and board minutes, correspondence, published editions of the texts, and personal interviews. The dissertation includes an |
